Platinum Pussycat / The Sexploiters (Double Feature / 2 Disc DVD)

THE PLATINUM PUSSYCAT (1968)
Framed for the brutal murder of her boyfriend, Dena (the gorgeous Sandy Roberts) goes on the lam to locate the killers and avenge his death. Enlisting the help of her former lover, a hard-boiled ex-cop, the duo outwits danger, degradation and the mob in an adventure that's as thrilling as it is bizarre.

Part sexploitation film, part action-thriller, Platinum Pussycat serves up a dizzying dish of guns, gangsters, frogmen, car chases and naked flesh in a combination of b&w and color inserts that result in an absurdly satisfying piece of psychotropic cinema!

THE SEXPLOITERS (1965)
A "modeling agency" in Manhattan is the setting for this outrageous erotic romp where men and women do anything to satisfy their wildest carnal cravings. The Sexploiters is the lone directorial effort of Al Ruban, producer of the acclaimed films of John Cassavettes.

Among the sexiest of the Sexploiters is a bored housewife with expensive tastes who works as a high-class call girl. As she eagerly goes about making each client's bizarre fantasies come true, the Sexploiters' studios fill to capacity with all manners of intimate activities including naughty photography sessions.

Planet of the Apes '68 [Blu-ray]

20th Century Fox released the film previously on DVD by itself and in a box set with the rest of the Apes films plus a bonus DVD of extras. Now, for those who just want the first (and best) film of the series and all of the extras, Fox has released an excellent two-DVD special edition of Planet of the Apes to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
The DVD's extras get off to a shaky start with the two lackluster audio commentaries. The first is by legendary composer, Jerry Goldsmith, and the second by actors Roddy McDowall, Natalie Trundy, Kim Hunter and make-up artist John Chambers. Both commentaries could benefit from some extensive editing. There is way too much dead air that one has to sit through to get to the few interesting tidbits of information. The DVD producers should have edited down these commentaries to only the scenes in the movie that are actually commented on, like with the audio tracks on the Glengarry Glen Ross and The Right Stuff DVDs.

The Vengeance of She (1968)

A beautiful young European girl, Carol, is taken over by the spirit of mysterious Ayesha, queen of the lost city of Kuma. Carol is taken to Kuma to succeed the almost-immortal Ayesha as empress of Kuma.
I think this is a worthy sequel to the Cushing "She".

Olga Schoberová hasn't much to say but did not need to be dubbed as she can at least string a sentence together. (Unlike Ursula.)

The story follows up where She left off but that is not obvious until half way through the film. If you are looking for a modern day formulae (obligatory love scene with 20 seconds of bare breasts, three way love triangle with lovers screaming at each other, etc. etc,) you will not find it. Just a good story with a host of good actors – no all became famous.

The opening sequence has a terrific theme tune and has Olga wandering down a lonely road. We never find out who she is or where she comes from or how she manages to be immaculately dressed despite being lost and weary but this is the 1960s.

The mythology of an eternal flame that grants everlasting life – at a cost – is central to these films as is the deceit and betrayals that go with people's lust for what they cannot have.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Barbra and Johnny visit their father's grave in a remote cemetery when they are suddenly set upon by zombies. Barbra manages to get away and takes refuge in what seems to be an abandoned farm house. She is soon joined by Ben who stopped at the house in need of gas. Beset by the walking dead all around them Ben does his best to secure the doors and windows. The news reports are grim however with creatures returning to life everywhere. Barbra and Ben are surprised when they realize there are 5 people hiding out in the basement: Harry, Helen and Judy Cooper; and a young couple, Tom and Judy. Dissensions sets in almost immediately with Harry Cooper wanting to be in charge. As their situation deteriorates, their chances of surviving the night lessen minute by minute.
The budget was low.The actors were not the top of the heap, yet Night of the Living Dead is a very effective horror film.It was the film that no doubt set the standard for horror films of today. The whole idea of freshly dead corpses returning from the grave to feed on the living makes my hair
