Space Monster Dogora (1964)

Several satellites have been destroyed without explanation. A few days later, a group of diamond thieves are thwarted when the gems they are after suddenly disappear. Strangely enough, the two incidents are connected when scientists discover that a giant jellyfish like creature, which was mutated due to a high amount of radiation hovering over Japan, is drawing up all carbon based matter, including coal and diamonds. Soon the creature is also attacking bridges and ships. Can anything be done to destroy the creature before he begins drawing up all mankind?
In the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Japanese film companies such as Toho made a bunch of Godzilla-type movies. You know, giant dinosaur-like monsters which often were just guys in big rubber suits stomping on plastic cities and military equipment. Some are entertaining (such as the first Godzilla film) and many were just ridiculous and dumb (such as seeing Gamera the giant killer turtle flying away by shooting flames out his butt). I didn't realize "Dogora" was in this same genre but once I saw it, I felt it was a bit better than these sorts of movies. Yes, there is a big silly monster but he was used sparingly (thank goodness) and the rest of the film was decent.

The Black Panther (1977)

A gung-ho ex-military man pursues a secret life of crime, culminating in the kidnapping of a teenage heiress.

Everything about THE BLACK PANTHER screams out 'crimewatch uk re-inactment'....yet for some perverse reason it works. DONALD SUMPTER plays NEILSON to perfection, he is arrogant, not a warm family man, yet comes accross as human enough to make mistakes, that we would make (if we decided to rob post offices, or kidnap).

Based on true events, THE BLACK PANTHER is a very dark movie, that portrays its central character as neither a good OR bad guy. The fact that he has an army record, and collects millitary equipment, may shed some light on this guys anger. If he only planned his robberies as good as his hideouts and training, he may not have had to resort to kidnapping. As it is, his character can be likened to JON FINCHs performance in FRENZY, allbeit, a little crazier.

Alive or Preferably Dead/ Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Wild East Productions presents another double feature highlighting specific Euro actors this time involving actor Giuliano Gemma aka Montgomery Wood and we also have a double dose of Director Duccio Tessari who together with Gemma gave fans the two Ringo films at the beginning of the Spaghetti Western genre. This time Gemma is presented by two light hearted farces which can only be appreciated if you have an acquired taste for Italian humor. Up first is 'ALIVE OR PREFERABLY DEAD'-1969 which is not a true Spaghetti Western and emerges as a period piece at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, in fact, the first ten minutes makes you feel like you are in a Victorian gaslight drama. It pairs Gemma with professional boxer of his time Nino Benvenuti as two brothers who stand to gain an inheritance if they can exist together for three months without bickering. Naturally, the usual brawls ensue and they decide to take up bank robbing? to become the most notorious bandits in the territory. The scene stealer is actress Sydne Rome who both brothers fall for. The camera work by Manuel Rojas and music score by Gianni Ferrio try to enhance the mood but the low brow schtick overplays its welcome. The same schtick is peppered all over the next entry 'KISS KISS BANG

Bad Girls Dormitory (1985)

Inmates at a women's prison run by a corrupt warden and her gang of sadistic guards plan a breakout.

This opens with a trio of set-up-but-innocent girls getting arrested and shipped off to the titular facility. The place is run by Miss Madison, who wants to do some experimental reconditioning techniques on her charges and social worker Don Beach (Rick Gianasi) is concerned. Lori (Carey Zuris) emerges as our leading character and, naturally, there are tough chick adversaries in the form of Lisa (Jennifer Delora) and her sidekick Rebel (Donna Eskra). And, even more naturally, Lori and Don hook up.

If you want some 80s NYC sleaze, you can't go wrong with this. Sporting a lo-fi BASKET CASE aesthetic, BAD GIRL'S DORMITORY is rife with dirty NYC alleys, grimy apartment buildings, and basements with peeling paint. I love it. The acting is universally bad but lead Zuris, who looks a bit like Marilyn Chambers, is actually decent. She didn't do anything else. I'd also give Delora points for her tough chick portrayal (she is interviewed on the Media Blasters DVD). Special mention should be made for the obviously pseudonym donning Marita as the warden Miss Madison. Looking like a porn variation of Bridgette Nielsen in ROCKY IV, she is hilariously bad and her bizarre accent makes me suspect she may be Angelika Jager (another pseudonym?) from Kincaid's ROBOT HOLOCAUST (1986). Given how awful Jager was and the proximity of the two productions, they must be the same lady.

Wham! Bam! Thank You, Spaceman! (1975)

Two aliens from a dying planet are on a mission to impregnate Earth women.

This is one of those movies that defies description. There's absolutely no way any words of mine can adequately convey just how stupid, cheap and cheesy this ultra-low budget 70s sci fi softcore silliness is, so I won't even begin to try. All I can say is that if you have a taste for trash ala Ed Wood, Russ Meyer, Jack Hill, or even (the absolutely worthless) Ted V. Mikels, then you NEED to see 'Wham Bam Thank You Spaceman' sometime in your life.

Two alien doofus studs are sent to Earth to save their race by bedding down as many human women as they can. That's it for the plot. 'Blackenstein' director William A. Levey looks like he had a budget of $100 to work worth. The aliens spy on "hot" babes getting it on, then by electronic jiggery pokery beam them up to their spaceship where they give them some good extraterrestrial loving via their unusual equipment. This is repeated with variations over and over, interspersed with some "humour" as comic relief. Cult fans will probably want to track this one down as it includes Dyanne Thorne ('Ilsa, She Wolf Of The S.S.) and Haji ('Faster Pussycat!) in the cast, but I wouldn't get your hopes up, it isn't erotic OR amusing. Even so, it is impossible to tear your eyes from the screen as long as this unbelievably moronic movie is running. Afterwards you will shake your head and exclaim "How did this crap ever get made?!"

The Candy Tangerine Man/Lady Cocoa Double Feature (BluRay)

The Candy Tangerine Man: The film opens with pageantry pimp Baron (John Daniels) driving his customized two tone red and yellow Rolls Royce around down town - night time L.A. His ladies have been coming up short lately and he wants to know why. Turns out that two L.A.P.D. cops - Dempsey and Gordon (who have been after Baron for some time now) have resorted to rousting his girls every chance they get. Indeed in the next scene they have set Baron up with a copper in drag to entrap him with procurement of prostitutues. Of course the Baron is wise to their ploy and ends up grabbing the ecopper by the short and curlies. Starring John Daniels, Eli Haines, and Tom Hankason.

Lady Cocoa: A young woman is released from prison in order to help the government build a case against her gangster boyfriend. Lots of violence, explicit language and adult situations keep this blaxploitation film moving forward from beginning to end. Starring Lola Falana, Gene Washington, and Alex Dreier.
