Space Monster Dogora (1964)

Several satellites have been destroyed without explanation. A few days later, a group of diamond thieves are thwarted when the gems they are after suddenly disappear. Strangely enough, the two incidents are connected when scientists discover that a giant jellyfish like creature, which was mutated due to a high amount of radiation hovering over Japan, is drawing up all carbon based matter, including coal and diamonds. Soon the creature is also attacking bridges and ships. Can anything be done to destroy the creature before he begins drawing up all mankind?
In the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Japanese film companies such as Toho made a bunch of Godzilla-type movies. You know, giant dinosaur-like monsters which often were just guys in big rubber suits stomping on plastic cities and military equipment. Some are entertaining (such as the first Godzilla film) and many were just ridiculous and dumb (such as seeing Gamera the giant killer turtle flying away by shooting flames out his butt). I didn't realize "Dogora" was in this same genre but once I saw it, I felt it was a bit better than these sorts of movies. Yes, there is a big silly monster but he was used sparingly (thank goodness) and the rest of the film was decent.

Slave Contract (1982)

A wealthy man and his more reluctant wife decide to rent Nami, a slave, for three months. Her contract states that she will submit to any degradation or torture and satisfy any sexual needs her masters may have of her.
A wealthy political analyst Mikami and his more reluctant wife Yuriko decide to rent Nami,a slave, for three months. Her contract states that she will submit to any degradation or torture and satisfy any sexual needs her masters may have of her.Excellent pinku eiga made by always reliable Masaru Konuma. It certainly features some twisted and perverse sleaze including a dog play, rope bondage or public pissing, but the tone of "Slave Contract" is not as mean-spirited as "Lolita:Vibrator Torture" or similar utterly pessimistic pinku movies.Nami Matsukawa is certainly very likable as a sexual slave Nami.8 obedient slaves out of 10.Slave Contract, this late pinku is one of my favourite. The plot is simple : a wife and her husband make an agreement where the wife become the slave of him. But is is very well shoot and there a real "pinku" mood. I recommend it if you like the genre. Other movies from this director - In the Realm of Sex andBeautiful Hunter
This was quite a good film and from the bitchin' opening theme to the copious amounts of bondage and the demeaning attitude  towards women, this film is greatly entertaining. Surely, my favourite scene is one where a man's humanitarian wife meets up for lunch with a famous humanitarian woman from America. Suddenly, she has a fantasy of the black woman spitting milk all over her face and the scene cuts to a strange room where the black woman whips her while wearing a purple leotard.

Female Prisoner: Cage (1983)

A female prisoner Masayo(Mina Asami)is captured by wardens after an unsuccessful escape attempt. The evil prison guard begins to torture Masayo to break her spirit.Very nasty and vicious Japanese Women-in-Prison flick with plenty of rape and sexual violence on display.Tons of nudity,a bit of nasty torture and bondage plus abundant sweat, blood, semen and urine.Add also golden showers and you have a winner.Masaru Konuma's "Female Prisoner:Caged!" truly is one of the most savage and brutal WiP flicks ever made. It's even more vicious than several Jess Franco's WiP movies.I can only compare it to "Female Market" when it comes to sheer nastiness.8 horny construction workers out of 10.

Onibaba (The Criterion Collection)

Deep within the wind-swept marshes of war-torn medieval Japan, an impoverished mother and her daughter-in-law eke out a lonely, desperate existence. Forced to murder lost samurai and sell their belongings for grain, they dump the corpses down a deep, dark hole and live off of their meager spoils. When a bedraggled neighbor returns from the skirmishes, lust, jealousy, and rage threaten to destroy the trio's tenuous existence, before an ominous, ill-gotten demon mask seals their horrifying fate. Driven by primal emotions, dark eroticism, a frenzied score by Hikaru Hayashi, and stunning images both lyrical and macabre, Kaneto Shindo’s chilling folktale, Onibaba, is a singular cinematic experience.
A curse hangs over Kaneto Shindo's primal Japanese classic like a looming storm cloud, but the supernatural has got nothing on the desperation and savagery of the human animal trying to survive the horrors of war. In 16th-century Japan, a hardened middle-aged woman and her young daughter-in-law have turned predator to survive, murdering the soldiers who wander into the sea of pampas grass surrounding their hut and selling their weapons for rice. When their war-deserter neighbor returns home and makes his moves on the young woman, their numb equilibrium is complicated by greed, jealousy, and lust. The consequences are terrible and not exactly surprising, but they are gripping. Shindo's unnerving close-ups, bobbing handheld camerawork, and soundtrack of pounding drums and howling flutes gives Onibaba a queasy intensity. Shooting in stark black and white, he makes even the waving of the grass look ominous as it all but swallows everyone who enters.

Kwaidan (The Criterion Collection)

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at Cannes, Kwaidan features four nightmarish tales in which terror thrives and demons lurk. Adapted from traditional Japanese ghost stories, this lavish, widescreen production drew extensively on Kobayashi's own training as a student of painting and fine arts. Criterion is proud to present Kwaidan in a new ravishing color transfer.
A masterpiece of filmmaking artifice and mood-setting atmosphere, Kwaidan consists of four ghost stories adapted from the fiction of Greek-born Lafcadio Hearn (a.k.a. Yakumo Koizumi, 1850-1904), who assimilated into Japanese culture so thoroughly that his writings reveal no evidence of Western influence. So it is that these four cinematic interpretations--perhaps more accurately described as tales of spectral visitation--are sublimely Japanese in tone and texture, created entirely in a studio with frequently stunning results. There are painterly images here that remain the most beautiful and haunting in all of Japanese cinema, presented with the purity of silent film, sparsely accompanied by post-synchronized sounds and music (by Toru Takemitsu) that enhance the otherworldly effect of director Masaki Kobayashi's meticulous imagery. When viewed in a receptive frame of mind, Kwaidan can be intensely hypnotic.
Each of the four stories find their protagonists confronted by spirits that compel them to (respectively) make amends for past mistakes, maintain vows of silence, satisfy the yearnings of the undead, or capture phantoms that remain frightfully elusive. As each tale progresses, their supernatural elements grow increasingly intense and distant from the confines of reality. With careful use of glorious color and wide-screen composition, Kwaidan exists in a netherworld that is both real and imagined, its characters never quite sure they can trust what they've seen and heard. Vastly different from the more overt shocks of Western horror, the film casts a supernatural spell that remains timelessly effective. --Jeff Shannon

Lady Battle Cop (1990)

I've been trying to watch this movie for a long time. Onna Battle Cop was releases only in VHS in Brazil with the USA title Lady Cop. At the local release date, there was a lot of others Japanese tokusatsu series and movies available.
Lady Cop looks like a female Kidou Keiji Jiban, which is a fantasy-techno-non-futurist Robocop. They are all the same thing: someone gets hurt and a ultrascret project saved their lives , turning into a robot. So its time to get a good weapon and... revenge! The camera tricks (like wearing a mask) are really bad for a movie. The special effects are low budget, but its OK. The strange thing is that doesn't look like a Toei's movie, but a Toei's series. There's a lot of theme songs and in the end of the movie appears "The battle is just beginning". Does it supposed to have a Onna Battle Cop 2? My guess is that it supposed to be a pilot for some TV series. Even the end of the movie looks like an TV tokusatsu ending (like Juspion or Kamen Rider Black, posing like great heroes on a black background).

Horse Woman Dog 1990

Description: It gives me great pleasure to share one of the most subversive pink films ever made by the great Japanese director Hisayasu Sato (Lolita Vibrator Torture and Love – Zero = Infinity).  I have trouble labeling this an exploitation film.  To me it is an Art film. This film has one huge difference then most of Sato's films as it does not take place in an urban enviroment but on a beach instead.  Still the Japanese Cronenberg's themes of alienation, perversion and voyeurism are still present.  For those who are not aware of Sato's work be aware that his films are perhaps the most transgressive from the pink scene and are usually very hard to watch.  That being said this film was one of the biggest moneymakers for Shintoho and Sato!!!!

Horny House of Horror

This low-budget Japanese movie somewhat resembles one of the late 80's/early 90's no-budget efforts of American directors like Fred Olen Ray, Dave Decoteau, or Jim Wynorski ("Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers", "Evil Toons", "Beverly Hills Vamp"). It has a small cast isolated at a single location and it relies a lot on topless female nudity and rather tame softcore sex, with bone-headed humor mitigating the actual horror and gore. Befitting the new millennium though, it's much more outrageous. It has the same basic plot as "Beverly Hills Vamp" with a lot of horny guys being dispatched by prostitutes at a sinister brothel/massage parlor, but there is more of an emphasis on bloody castration scenes, although they're still played strictly for laughs.
The three female leads are all played by former AV (adult video) starlets. The most famous is Asami, who has been in a lot of films like this and is relatively talented in that she can play both a badass and a more traditionally submissive female role. She gets to do both here. And if you find it either funny or sexy (I don't really), she and her male partner here both end up farting in each others' faces at different points. Asami and the other girls show a lot of "T", but not enough "A", and of course no "V" (or "P"?) since this is Japanese. The Japanese optical fogging here is downright bizarre. The dismembered, uh, members of the male victims turn up at several points, but they optically fog only the tips so they look like Vienna sausages (and wouldn't they deflate after all the blood ran out of them?). More annoying though is the optical fogging of the front of Asami's see-through, chain-mail underwear.
This movie is actually pretty entertaining though aside from the less- than-hot sexual content. It holds together well throughout with martial arts and sword fighting at the end (including a memorable scene of one character having her eyes literally knocked out). There's also a nice mean-spirited twist at the very end involving one the male characters, who is a virgin and has resisted the deadly hookers because he is trying to stay faithful to his fianceé. Don't necessarily expect a hot sex romp, but this is kind of a FUN movie.

Beautiful Teacher in Torture Hell (1985)

Ran Masaki plays a beautiful teacher who is transferred to a remote mountain school where she is gang-raped and abused by the male students. She is also turned into sex slave and subjected to sexual torture by bondage freaks.Masahito Segawa's "Beautiful Teacher in Torture Hell" is not as nasty as its lurid title suggests.Of course there is plenty of rape and sado-sexual violence, but the film never reaches the level of nastiness of "Captured for Sex 2" or "All Women Are Whores".The plot is interesting and offers some surprises and the acting is decent. All in all,if you are pinku eiga completist you can't miss it-just don't expect something totally depraved or disturbing.8 out of 10.

Newlywed Hell (1975)

the storyline or premise is a familiar one to pinku fans. A woman is sexually dominated through a series of rapes, bondage sometimes being involved, and other acts. Eventually the woman begins to enjoy it and starts to actively seek out 'rough sex' and sometimes even to the point where the woman is manipulating the men in her life to give her what she wants, when she wants it.
I didn't get a subtitled version but that is pretty much how the storyline played out in this one. It's a bit of a mystery at first when she enters this town where all the women seemed to be treated this way. And yet, she eventually gets used to it, and even begins to enjoy it.
My main interest in this is Naomi Tani. She comes as advertised, a beautiful woman, a great actress who's physical acting abilities are very good. And she also looks great naked. I'm actually not a big fan of the rape and forced-bondage genre but this one is quite "mild" compared to other pinkus. The scenes I get a rise out of are more during the transformation when Naomi's character starts to seek out and enjoy these encounters more and more. There are quite a few sex scenes from the middle of the film onward, many involving some 'light' bondage.
The rest of the film, well I can't comment on the dialogue. But the scenery was well shot and well framed. The director definitely knew what he was doing.
7/10 (6 for the movie, +1 for Naomi Tani and those beautiful breasts, lovely eyes, and perfect skin)

Celluloid Nightmares (1999)

A female reporter researching underground sex films stumbles across a snuff film, and her further investigation causes the film makers to take action against her.
MU ZAN E is an extremely rough Japanese gore/sexual violence film by anyone's standards. Anyone who doesn't find some of the scenes in this film disgusting is inhuman. That being said, since that is exactly what I was looking for - I wasn't disappointed.
I will give a brief synopsis, and this is what I gathered, since my copy has no English subtitles or dubs: A reporter is doing some research on underground sex films. She does interviews with various people in the "industry" and goes on-set during the filming of a production. During her research, she comes across some snuff material. Apparently she begins researching that type of stuff too, and when she gets too close, certain people aren't happy with her prying and decide to take action against her...
Honestly, this film is NASTY,NASTY,NASTY. I can't think of anyone who truly enjoys this type of material as entertainment. My main interest in seeking this film is that I'm always looking for the most "shocking" films available. Let me tell ya, this is one of 'em. Not only that, but the story (what I could make of it) seemed pretty interesting (and far superior and more straight-forward than Yamnouchi's other offerings...), and I hope that Unearthed Films will release an English subtitled version. As far as I know, they hold the rights here in the U.S. but have no ETA as to when it will be released. I give this film a pretty high rating because it does exactly what it's intention is to do
repel, repulse and sicken - but again, the story is pretty decent
too, and even has an unexpected twist, which doesn't always happen in this new realm of Asian "super extreme" gore films. Recommended only for you truly sick f!cks out there!!! 8.5/10

A Lively Geisha (1968)

Koshizu (Fuji), a young geisha, tries to kill herself but is saved by cook Yukichi (Sugahara). Rival geisha Adakichi (Yumi), greedy trader Yasukawa (Abe) and wealthy businessman Asai (Soganoya) add up to dramatic turns.
A graphic portrayal of insatiable sexual desire, this film, set in 1936 and based on a true incident, depicts a man and a woman consumed by a transcendent, destructive love while living in an era of ever escalating imperialism and governmental control. Less a work of pornography than of politics, In the Realm of the Senses is a brave, taboo-breaking milestone.
